Uprating
The budgets and income standards, together with the Minimum Income Calculator, were uprated in July 2009, one year after the publication of the initial research. The new data is based on April 2009 prices, using evidence from the Retail Prices Index to estimate rises in each expenditure category.
Annual upratings are intended as interim estimates of the current level of the minimum income standard. Over a longer period, the aim is to have periodic rebasing of the budgets based on repeating the original research method for selected households.
