Sustainable income standards: towards a greener minimum?
A team from CRSP and the Centre for Environmental Strategy at Surrey University looked at the relationship between social acceptability and environmental sustainability in defining minimum living standards.
This project aimed to explore how people could adapt their definition of what comprises essential consumption to take account of sustainability issues. In its first phase, it analysed what kinds of change could be possible, and what kinds of savings in emissions this would produce. The second phase consisted of a series of experimental focus groups testing the acceptability of these possibilities by exploring the attitudes of members of the public to greener consumption.
The project was funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
