2010 Update
The budgets and income standards, together with the Minimum Income Calculator, were uprated in July 2010, taking account of inflation and of a review of the budgets two years after they were first produced. The inflation estimates are based on April 2010 prices, using evidence from the Retail Prices Index to estimate rises in each expenditure category.
The review of the contents of the budgets is based on interim research with members of the public to see if any items are out of line with current norms. In 2012, the first major rebase of the budgets will take place, repeating the original research method for families with children.
